Alfred Gates

Alfred (Al) Lindley Gates, age 82, of Winfield, KS, passed away April 30, 2021. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday May 6, 2021 at the Winfield Church of Christ in Winfield, KS. He was born March 19, 1939 in Hays, KS to William and Linnie Gates. Al spent a greater part of his life farming in Northwest Kansas. He was a member of the Winfield Church of Christ.

He married Sharon Faye Roush on December 27, 1969. They raised three children on the family farm in Studley, Kansas. Al and Sharon moved to Winfield, KS in 1992 and lived and retired in that community.

He enjoyed fishing, bird-hunting, and gardening. He also enjoyed woodworking and making little wooden trinkets.

Al is survived by his three children; daughter, Lori Starnes of Royse City, TX; son, Rusty Gates and wife Stefanie of Orondo, WA, Casey Gates and wife Amber of Deer Lodge, MT; grandchildren, Trevor and Sarah Gates, Brielle Gates;  sisters, Arlene Etheridge of Derby, KS, and Verda McCloy of Englewood, CO, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sharon, his sisters Lavon Hazleton and Leora Henderson, and son-in-law Sean Starnes.
