Willard “Sonny” Scribner, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, Marine, and pilot, passed away on September 17, 2026, at the age of 92.

Sonny was born on July 28, 1934, and attended high school in Dallas, Texas. With a strong sense of duty and love for his country, he proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. His military service remained one of the accomplishments of which he was most proud.

A hardworking and resourceful man, Sonny spent much of his life working with his hands. In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he became well known throughout the Pleasant Grove area as the owner of E&L Services, an air-conditioning company, as well as a lawn mower shop and bicycle repair business. He later operated a small-engine repair shop, where he could spend his days doing what he loved—tinkering and fixing things.

After retiring, Sonny moved to West Tawakoni, where he enjoyed his daily morning coffee and conversations with friends at the local donut shop. He also served as a city councilman and was honored by the City of West Tawakoni for his service to the community.

Sonny was a handsome, quick-witted, friendly man who always had a joke ready and a smile on his face. He loved a good bargain and was famous for being careful with his money, but his generosity toward others knew no bounds. He would never let anyone go hungry and was always willing to help. If you needed something, Sonny was the man you could call.

Those who knew him will remember his brown custom Chevy van cruising through Pleasant Grove with polka music playing, his morning coffee at the donut shop, and his endless stories and jokes. His grandchildren will especially remember his playful teasing.

Sonny loved fishing, camping, traveling, flying his airplanes, listening to polka music, and spending time with his family. Above all, he was proud of his children and cherished the time he spent with his family. His life was defined by service, hard work, friendship, humor, and a willingness to help others.

On February 18, 1983, Sonny married Martha Jay Scribner, his beloved wife and companion.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Jay Scribner; children, David Lee Scribner, Dana Chepey, Darren Scribner, Kerrie Elmer, and Corey James; grandchildren, Gary Poole, Jennifer Bell, David Aaron Scribner, Logan Scribner, Caleb Chepey, Kayla Hoff, and Aaron Rogers; great-granddaughters, Emmalynn Hoff and Sadie Hoff; sons-in-law, Brian Chepey, Donnie Elmer, and Brandon Hoff; and daughters-in-law, Carol Scribner, Angie McFarland, and Kaycee James.

Sonny leaves behind a lifetime of stories, laughter, friendships, and memories that will be treasured by all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed.
