Velma Tate

Velma Odessa Tate, age 90, passed away at her home in the evening hours of Friday, November 21, 2009. Ms. Tate was born on December 16, 1918 in Greenville to Willard Lee and Julia Adams Wallace, they precede her in death. She married Joe Willard Tate on December 20, 1936 and together had two children. He preceded her in death on February 7, 1967. Ms. Tate spent her life as a homemaker and a farmers wife in Floyd, TX until her husbands death. She then went to work and retired from Fisher Controls in McKinney, TX. In retirement she also worked for Shireys in Greenville. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She loved to spend her time in her flower gardens and was a wonderful cook but mostly enjoyed watching sports, especially her Cowboys, Rangers, and Mavericks. She is survived by one son, Larry Tate, and wife Sandra, of Greenville; one daughter, Joanne Coleman, and husband Billy, of Farmersville; sister, Vera Tredway; granddaughters, Sherry Bowers, and husband Robby, of Quinlan, Judy Dickeson of Greenville, and Amber Brown of Lavon; grandsons, Eddie Tate of Las Vegas, NV and Larry Tate Jr., and April, of Carthage; and five great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Isaac Wallace, Clinton Wallace, Eston Wallace, and Woodrow Wallace and two sisters, Ruby Glasscock and Effie Baumgardner. Services for Velma Tate will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, November 23, 2009 at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James Corbet and Don Coppinger officiating. Burial will follow at Memoryland Cemetery in Greenville. Visitation will be held from 6 " 8 P.M. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
