Sue Squires

December 10, 1926 — September 25, 2010

Sue Irish Squires, age 83, of Greenville, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, September 25, 2010 at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 10, 1926 in Arkansas. She was raised by two very loving and caring parents, Carl T. and Nelle Hansen Irish. Sue attended finishing school at Ward Belmont where she majored in music. After school she married Glenn M Spike Squires in Nevada, Iowa on December 26, 1946. After 63 years of marriage and a lifetime of memories he survives. Early in her adult life, Sue worked as a model for Nieman-Marcus but spent most of her life as a homemaker. Mrs. Squires lived a full and happy life. She loved to travel and do needle point. Sue was most proud of her 41 years of sobriety and time she spent in Alcoholics Anonymous. Her love and care saved countless people from a lifetime of alcoholism and her dedication helped to start an AA group in Hawaii, a group which remains today. She was a member of the St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Greenville. Her quick wit, caring personality, and love for her family will leave a void in the lives of those she treasured, a void which will not soon be filled. She is survived by her husband Spike; children, Ann Palmeri, and husband Chuck, of Long Beach, California and Stuart Lind Squires, and wife Carolyn, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; grandchildren, Henry Darcy Curwen, and wife Krista, Stephanie Lind MacKanic, and husband Mike, Alison Lind Squires, Catherine Squires, David Palmeri, and Daniela Palmeri; and seven great-grandchildren. Due to her 10 year struggle with Parkinsons disease, the family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made in her memory to the Parkinsons disease Foundation at www.pdf.org.
