Greenville

On November 27, 2025, Spencer Dean Jones, 71, went home to be with the Lord. Born on September 4, 1954, Spencer lived a life filled with hard work, deep love, unwavering faith, and a generosity that touched everyone who crossed his path.

For over 45 years, Spencer made his career as a truck driver, a job he truly enjoyed. Along the miles he traveled, he made a friend wherever he went. Spencer had a gift for connection—he could strike up a conversation with anyone, and his warm personality turned strangers into friends. Known for his quick wit and endless jokes, he loved making people laugh. His joy was infectious, and his laughter was something everyone remembered.

Spencer married the love of his life, Cindy, and together they raised two caring boys who were his pride and joy. Whether they were horseback riding, deep sea fishing, grilling in the backyard, or simply spending time together, Spencer treasured every moment with his sons. Among his proudest accomplishments were his 46-year marriage to Cindy, raising two fine young men, and witnessing his oldest son marry the love of his life.

Spencer enjoyed a variety of hobbies that reflected his fun-loving and family-centered spirit. He loved playing golf, coaching peewee football, going to the movies, fishing, camping, and playing catch with his boys. Poker night with the family was always a highlight, filled with stories, laughter, and the warmth of being together.

Above all, Spencer loved the Lord. He never hesitated to share scripture with loved ones or even with someone he had just met. Spencer was always the first to offer to lead a prayer, grounding his family and friends with his steady faith and comforting presence.

Spencer was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Cindy Jones; his mother, Velda Tatum; the man he knew as his father, Lonnie Tatum, who raised him from the time he was about two years old; his brother, Charles Tatum; and his father- and mother-in-law, Gerald and Shirley Griffin.

He is survived by his sons, Nathan Jones and Dillon Jones; his daughter-in-law, Lauren Jones; his brother, Andy Tatum; his sisters, Linda Diaz and Sheri Smith; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who loved him dearly.

Spencer will be remembered for his kindness, his laughter, his stories, and his faith. He gave freely, loved deeply, and lived fully. His legacy is one of joy, devotion, and compassion—a legacy that will continue through the countless lives he touched.
