Sherman Douglas, Jr.

August 30, 1925 — September 20, 2019

Sherman “SJ” Douglas, Jr., passed away on September 20, 2019 in Carrollton, TX. He was born on August 30, 1925 in Farmersville, TX to Sherman, Sr. and Eula Pauline (Wright) Douglas. He lived in the Farmersville and Merit area most of his life. SJ was in the U.S. Army during WWII, was a member of Merit Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge # 727.

He married Mary Helen Hooper on January 3, 1948 in Rockwall. They were married for 70 years. She preceded him in death November 13, 2018.

He is survived by his sons, Gary Douglas (Susan), Don Douglas (Candy), and Mark Douglas (Kay Lynn).

Grandchildren; Kevin Douglas (Renee), Kelly Jones (Jeremy), Dusty Douglas (Missy), Blake Douglas (Susan), Colton Douglas (Brittany), Justin Douglas (Kristi), and Jennifer Adams (Brandon).

Great-Grandchildren; Kailee & Kacie Murphy, Grant & Garrett Ticknor, Bryson & Will Douglas, Saylor Douglas; Hadley, Beck, & Dilynn Douglas; Addison & Paxstyn Adams; and several nieces and nephews. Also survived by lifelong friend Genora Boone.

He was preceded in death by parents; grandson, Joel Douglas; brothers, Bill Douglas and Ronnie Douglas.

A Funeral Service will be held 10:00 am Monday, September 23, 2019 at Merit Baptist Church with Brother Bob Layman and Donnie Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Merit Cemetery with Kevin Douglas, Dusty Douglas, Blake Douglas, Colton Douglas, Justin Douglas, Jeremy Jones, and Brandon Adams serving as pallbearers. A visitation will be held from 5-7 pm Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Peters Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Merit Baptist Church.
