Ruth Brandenburg

Ruth Grogan Brandenburg, 95, of Hunt County, Texas passed from this Earth to be with the Lord Thursday, October 4, 2012. She died from natural causes at Hunt County Regional Hospital in Greenville, Texas. She was born on February 12, 1917 in Monticello, Texas to Ansel Rowe Grogan II and Erah Elizabeth Deverall. She was one of six children: Minnie, Edna, Bertha, Aubie, Helen and Joan. Ruth grew up in Monticello, 8 miles southwest of Mount Pleasant, Texas. She wrote in her book of memories of her days on the farm with her siblings and how they played in the woods behind the house, climbed the mulberry trees and ate their fill of berries, picked peaches from the orchard and enjoyed fresh watermelons from the garden. Ruth was married to Wilfred "Bill" Brandenburg. They met in 1941 at a USO dance. They were married in Washington D.C. on March 19, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1987. Together, they had many wonderful children: Barbara Law, Kenneth Brandenburg, Joan Brandenburg, William "Bill" Brandenburg and his wife, Sharon Brandenburg. She was greatly loved by all of her grandchildren: Kimyla Guice Stegall, Ryan Schnell, Erin Wells Bloyed, Elizabeth Thiem Oates, Stephanie Thiem, Catherine Thiem, Robert Law, Kristie Brandenburg Morris, James Brandenburg, Carrie Brandenburg Crayton, and William "David" Brandenburg. She also was beloved by her great-grandchildren: Alexandria Schnell, Chasity Haley, Lukas Schnell, William "Murphy" Stegall, Tristen Stegall, Alexander Stegall, Addison Oates, Kade Harper, Izabella Crayton, Beau McCrory, Reagan Morris, Kenedi Morris, and Caleb Morris. She was blessed to have a great-great-grandchild, Jacob Yanez. Ruth attended Mount Pleasant High School. She was an excellent student and was recognized as the valedictorian from her 10th grade class in Monticello. She went on to study business administration at the Business College in Dallas and attended East Texas State Teachers College in Commerce, Texas. She worked in the public and private sector, including as a group secretary for the FBI in Washington D.C. Over the years she lived in a number of places including: Monticello, Texas; Stratford, Connecticut; Dallas, Highland Park, Kaufman and Hunt County, Texas; as well as, Kissimmee and Loughman, Florida. She lived a rich and full life full of love and believed in teaching by example, including the golden rule passed on from her father: Treat others as you would want to be treated. Visitation and memorial services will be held Monday, October 8, 2012, at Peters Funeral Home located at 3935 E. Joe Ramsey Blvd. in Greenville, Texas 75401. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11 a.m. The graveside service will take place at 2 p.m. at Adams Chapel Cemetery between Mt. Pleasant and Monticello on Texas FM-127. Memorials may be sent in Ruth's name to Peters Funeral Home.
