Reba Sorrells

January 25, 1918 — March 30, 2012

Reba Marcella Gifford Sorrells, or Mammaw as she was known to many, was born January 25, 1918, to Joe and Leona Gifford. She died peacefully in her sleep in her home in Tyler, Texas, on March 30, 2012. A great love of hers was Harding College (at that time) where she lived with the Sherrill family and took in ironing to pay for her college education. She met Cleo (C.H.) Sorrells, a mechanic at the Searcy, Arkansas airport while at Harding. They married on May 5, 1941. She was Principal at the Boles Home ISD for many years before retiring. She was an active member of the West Erwin Church of Christ in Tyler where she worked weekly in the benevolent center and single handedly sent out and graded thousands of World Bible School lessons. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Leona Gifford; her brother, Leland Gifford; her husband of 55 years, C.H. Sorrells; and her eldest son, Jim Sorrells. She is survived by 5 children, Jon Sorrells, Tommy Sorrells, Deanna Chandler, Susan Hawkins and Darrell Sorrells; her brothers, H.D Gifford and Glenn Gifford; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, friends and World Bible School students all over the world. Service will be held March 31, 2012 at 11:00 AM Graveside at Memoryland in Greenville. In lieu of flowers, please send memorial contributions to Boles Home (Arms of Hope)
