Pansy Johnson

Pansy Nell Witt Johnson, age 90, of Greenville, passed away in the late evening hours of Friday, March 11, 2011 at the Hunt Regional Medical Center in Greenville. She was born on May 18, 1920 in the McWright Community. Pansy was the daughter of George and Pinah Baumgardner Witt, they preceded her in death. After graduating from Celeste High School, Pansy married De Lewis Johnson on February 22, 1941. Pansy was an energetic and respected participant in the Greenville community through neighborhood activities, Three Shanghai Clubs, the Junior Pallas Club and the Greenville Garden Club. So that she could be home for her children, Pansy learned to monogram and operated a very successful home-based monogramming business for over ten years. She used her monogramming talents for dress shops, bowling leagues, P.E. class outfits and the like extending all the way from Greenville to Tyler to Kilgore and beyond. Pansy belonged to the Wesley United Methodist Church and was an active church member. Pansy is survived by two sons, Douglas Lewis Johnson, and wife Susan, and Richard Allen Johnson; one daughter, Olivia De Johnson Peters, and husband Richard; grandchildren, De Lewis Johnson, Lisa Johnson, Deonna Dauson, Hank Bryant, Kathy Gulledge, and Sandra Johns; eleven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law Tom Owen and Gene Ketcham; and by one nephew Curtis Witt, and wife Jean. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at Peters Funeral Home in Greenville. A private burial will be held at Mount Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City with Hank Bryant, De Lewis Johnson, James Williams, Jonathan Dodd, Jerry Brown, and Richard Peters serving as pallbearers. Visitation will be from 6 -8 P.M. Tuesday evening at the funeral home.
