Karen Ruth Collins, born Karen Ruth Leach, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2026, at the age of 78.

Born on October 22, 1947, in El Paso, Texas, Karen built a life defined by strength, steadiness, and unwavering love for her family. El Paso was where she grew up, married the love of her life, Edward William Collins, and began raising her family. Though she later made her home in the Dallas–Fort Worth area, El Paso always remained close to her heart.

Karen devoted 47 years to her career as a labor and delivery nurse. For nearly five decades, she stood beside mothers in their most vulnerable and powerful moments, advocating fiercely and helping welcome countless babies into the world. She was a respected leader, steady in crisis and rational under pressure. Nursing was not just her profession; it reflected her character. She was dependable, compassionate, and quietly strong.

Widowed early in life, Karen never remarried. Edward was her one great love. After his passing, she raised her children with resilience and determination, becoming the steady foundation of her family. She was loving, supportive, rational, and ever-present.

Karen is survived by her daughter, Megan Collins; her son, Chris Collins; her grandchildren, Austin and Lily Pinkerton; and her cherished yorkie, Minnie.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward William Collins; her parents, Harry V. Leach and Francis Louise Leach; her brother, Colin Leach; and her sister, Karlen Doggett.

Karen enjoyed the arts, traveling with her daughter, a good glass of wine, and animals of all kinds. She always had pets throughout her life and cared for them like members of the family. She was strong and independent, stubborn in the best way, and never one to mince words. Beneath her no-nonsense nature was a deeply loving heart.

She will be remembered as a steadfast and devoted mother and grandmother whose strength and steady presence shaped the lives of those she loved.
