Josephine Newton

Josephine F. Newton, age 91, of Greenville, passed away in the evening hours of Monday, January 3, 2011 at the Hunt Regional Medical Center of Greenville. She was born on June 16, 1919 in Atoka, Oklahoma to Gilbert R. and Sallie Sutherland Fite, they preceded her in death. Josephine married Charles Aaron Newton on February 19, 1955 in North Charleston, South Carolina. Ms. Newton retired as a maintenance clerk for the naval shipyard in Charleston, South Carolina after 26 years of dedicated service. Following her retirement, Josephine and her husband Charles, moved to Houston and eventually Greenville with her sister Marjorie. It was in this time that Josephine became affectionately known as Aunt Jo to everyone including those she was not related to. Those who came across her will remember her friendly personality and her endless love for her family and her cats. Josephine was a very Godly, Christian woman who left a legacy of love and compassion for all to cherish. Josephine is survived by her sister, Marjorie Rae Brown, and husband Harley, of Greenville; nieces, Debbi Morel, and husband Dave, of Greenville, Margie Guin, and husband Jim, of Stephenville, Annette Simmons, and husband Clyde, of Campbell, and Lena Ehlert, and husband Mark, of Edmonds, Washington; and by a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, and other relatives. Josephine was also preceded in death by her husband Charles on March 28, 1986. Services for Ms. Newton will be held at 10 A.M., Saturday, January 8, 2011 at the New Life Family Fellowship Church in Caddo Mills with Pastor Butch Bruton, Rev. Jim Guin, and Rev. Dave Morel officiating. Burial will follow at I.O.O.F. in Caddo Mills with Pastor Mike Martin officiating and Nick Simmons, Dave Morel, Justin Morel, Nathan Morel, Travis Morel, Heath Morel, Jamie Guin, and Clyde Simmons serving as pallbearers and David Allen Morel, Joe Morel, Brian Morel, Lucky Simmons, Matthew Elhert, Ryan Elhert, Mitchell Ehlert, and Mackenzie Ehlert serving as honorary pallbearers.
