Outside of work and family life, John found solace in various hobbies that brought him both joy and satisfaction. He possessed an exceptional talent for flytying—a skill that allowed him to create beautiful fishing flies that mesmerized both himself and others. Additionally, he enjoyed leatherworking, woodworking, and electronics, using these outlets as creative expressions of his vast imagination.

Throughout his life, John experienced many proud accomplishments that shaped him into the man he became. His passion for sports led him to coach both baseball and boxing, instilling important values such as teamwork, perseverance, and discipline in the young athletes under his guidance.
