Jimmy Wayne Bumpass, 78, of Texas, passed away on July 23, 2026. Born on November 3, 1947, in Wichita Falls, Tx, Jim spent his early years in Carrollton and graduated from R.L. Turner High School in 1966. Shortly afterward, he served in the U.S. Army with the 3rd Squadron, 17th Cavalry during the Vietnam War, fulfilling his duty with courage and commitment.
After returning home, Jim embraced his lifelong passion for motorsports, often found at Green Valley Raceway where he loved the energy and excitement of drag racing. He later built a respected career in aviation maintenance with Aviall in Dallas. In the late 1990s, he transitioned to long haul trucking, earning Safe Driver awards that reflected his professionalism and steady reliability. Jim retired in 2011 to care for his father during his battle with cancer - a testament to his loyalty and devotion to family.
Jim is survived by his brother, Robert (Lovey) Bumpass; his sister, Betty Zachary; his grandchildren, Christopher and Emilee Bumpas; and extended family who will forever cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cynthia; his parents, William, and Lucille; his brother, Randy; and his son, Chris.
A memorial service will be held at the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas, Tx. on August 24, 2026, at 10:30 am where Jim will be honored for his service, his dedication, and the life he lived with quiet strength. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund, www.vvmf.org/InMemory.
