James Ricky Schumann, 66, passed away peacefully at home on December 10, 2025. He was born on April 16, 1959, in Austin, Texas, and raised in Tyler, Texas.
Ricky was a truck driver by trade and spent many years on the road. Some of his favorite miles were driven with his beloved wife of 34 years, Carolyn, as team drivers, sharing not only the work, but the everyday moments of life together.
He loved his family deeply and showed it in steady, practical ways. He was a devoted fan of auto racing and the Texas Longhorns, and he never missed a chance to cheer on his team and favorite drivers.
Ricky was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn, who passed away just 23 days before him, his parents, Otto Joe and Lila Irene Schumann, and his daughter, Shanna Deann Littlefield.
He is survived by his sister, Jodie Owen and husband Robert of Elgin, his brother, Jim Schumann and wife Donna of Granbury, his son, JR Schumann of Nashville, Tennessee, and his “bonus” daughter, Amy Thomas and husband Anthony of Cedar Hill. He is also survived by three granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members who loved him.
Ricky was a simple man who worked hard, told it like it was, and cared fiercely for his family. He did not need much to be happy: a good drive, a good game, and the people he loved. Those who knew him will carry his stories, his sense of humor, and his steady presence with them.
To honor James’ memory, the family invites those wishing to do so to make a donation in his name to the American Cancer Society, in lieu of flowers. Donations can be made here.
