Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Jackie Allen “Big Wig” Wigington
Jackie Allen Wigington, affectionately known to all as “Big Wig,” passed away peacefully at his home in Merit, Texas, on November 25, 2025, at the age of 83. Born on June 30, 1942, in Ragan, Oklahoma, Jackie entered this world as the cherished son of Samantha and James Wigington. From humble beginnings, he grew into a man whose life was marked by integrity, grit, devotion, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved.
Jackie proudly served his country in the United States Navy, a chapter of his life that shaped his sense of duty, discipline, and loyalty. After his military service, he spent more than five decades behind the wheel as a professional truck driver. The open road became his second home, and his work ethic became legendary. Even when many would have slowed down, Jackie kept going, finally retiring at the age of 75—a true testament to his dedication, strength, and deep sense of responsibility. He believed in showing up, doing the job right, and keeping his word—values that defined the man he was.
Those who knew Jackie best will always remember his generous spirit and his willingness to help anyone in need. He never hesitated to give his time, his energy, or his support to a friend, neighbor, or stranger. Whether it was lending a hand, offering advice, or simply being there when someone needed him, Jackie lived with quiet compassion and steady kindness.
Jackie is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce Wigington, his partner in life and love; his daughter, Samantha Limmer, and her husband, Neal Shepherd; his sons, James Wigington and Jimmy Davis; and his dear sister, Linnie Mae Roland. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Harley and Andrew Limmer, and Wyatt and Weston Wigington, all of whom brought immense pride and joy to his life. His family was his greatest treasure, and his love for them was steadfast, enduring, and unconditional.
Beyond his work and devotion to family, Jackie’s heart truly belonged to the land and the simple pleasures of country living. He deeply loved his mules and his covered wagon, finding joy and peace in the rhythm of trail rides and slow, steady work powered by mule strength. He took pride in raking hay the old-fashioned way, tending to his garden, and spending as much time outdoors as possible. Nature was his refuge, and the wide-open sky reflected the freedom he carried in his soul.
Jackie’s easygoing nature, good humor, and generous heart made him a friend to many. He had a way of making people feel welcome, valued, and understood. His presence brought comfort, his laughter brought warmth, and his steady character set an example that will live on through the many lives he touched. To know Jackie was to know reliability, kindness, and genuine goodness.
A celebration of Jackie’s life will be held in true “Big Wig” style on December 13, 2025, at The Hidden Jewel, 7611 Clay Drive, Blue Ridge, Texas, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Friends and family are warmly invited to gather, share stories, laugh, remember, and help send him off “in the big wagon in the sky,” just as he would have wanted—surrounded by love, memories, and the people who meant the most to him.
Jackie Allen “Big Wig” Wigington leaves behind a powerful legacy of hard work, devotion to family, generosity of spirit, and love for the land and open road. Though his trail ride on earth has ended, his presence will forever be felt in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed, fondly remembered, and joyfully celebrated for generations to come.
