Hugh Edward Davis, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend, and faithful servant of Jesus Christ, passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026, at the age of 86. He was born on April 24, 1940, to Hugh Biffel and Marjorie Davis.
Hugh graduated from Sulphur Springs High School and went on to build a successful career spanning more than 30 years at Raytheon. He was known for his honesty, integrity, dependability, and extraordinary work ethic. Yet his greatest accomplishments were not found on a résumé. Hugh’s deepest joy and greatest legacy were found in the way he loved—as a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He was a man whose friendly smile welcomed everyone. He was always ready to lend a hand, offer encouragement, or help someone in need. People loved Hugh because he made them feel valued, respected, and cared for. His kindness was genuine, his word was trustworthy, and his presence brought warmth wherever he went.
Hugh was deeply devoted to his wife, Betty. Throughout their 65 years of marriage, he was her constant companion and faithful partner. He dedicated himself to her every day, caring for her with a love that was deep, unwavering, and enduring. Their life together was a beautiful testimony to commitment, companionship, and covenant love.
Above all, Hugh loved Jesus. His faith shaped the man he was and helped him trust God through every circumstance. He was a devoted disciple of Christ, seeking to live with compassion, humility, and a Christlike heart. Hugh loved worshiping at Highland Terrace Baptist Church and rarely wanted to miss a Sunday service. He especially enjoyed singing in the choir. Though he would be the first to admit that he did not have the finest singing voice, he sang with a deep and unmistakable joy that came from his heart.Hugh loved both kinds of music — gospel and Southern Gospel. His faith was woven into the ordinary moments of his life. He enjoyed traveling, especially with friends and with the Young at Heart group from church. Every Friday night, he looked forward to gathering with friends to play table games and enjoy one another’s company. He also loved food and could often be found wondering what would be served at the next meal—a simple pleasure that reflected his appreciation for life and fellowship.Hugh Davis leaves behind a legacy of faithfulness, hard work, generosity, love, and laughter. He was, in every sense, an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
His family and friends will remember his warm smile, steady presence, tender devotion, and the joy he brought into their lives.Though he will be deeply missed, his loved ones find comfort in knowing that Hugh is now in the presence of the Savior he loved and trusted throughout his life. He’s finished his race, fallen into the arms of Jesus, and heard those words “Well done good and faithful servant.” He’s taken his place in the heavenly choir where he is singing his heart out, smiling, laughing, and waiting for us to join him there. We’re grateful for the example he set and look forward to joining him. Heaven is a richer place because he’s there and our prayer is all the more “Come Jesus, come.”
He is survived by his devoted wife, Betty Davis, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage; his son, Bryan Davis, and wife, Louann; his grandson, Michael Davis, and wife, Kate; his granddaughter, Brianna Morrison, and husband, Michael; and his four great-grandchildren, Olivia, Brayden, Brylynn, and Chloe.
Hugh was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Linda Hicks; and his son, Anthony Scott Davis.
