Helen Jean Hooks, age 77, of Leonard, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, Sunday, February 21, 2010 after a lengthy illness. She was born on May 10, 1932 in Hunt County, Texas to Brice and Lula Mae Phillips Eldridge, they preceded her in death. Helen graduated from Lone Oak High School in 1949. She married Charles Ray Hooks in Dallas on November 26, 1951 and together had three children. She worked most of her life as a homemaker tending to the needs of her family and also worked various jobs in the insurance field. Helen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leonard. She was a loving mother, grandmother, wife and friend who will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by three children, Kathy Ann Kafka, and husband Pete, of Wills Point, Debra Jean Hooks of Rowlett, and Charles Ray Hooks, Jr., and wife Nora, of Mesquite; grandchildren, Brett Hooks, Lori Halupka, Christopher Kakfa, Colby Kakfa, and Sara Hooks; great-grandchildren, Jordan Hooks, Taylor Hooks, Kaleb Robison, Kaitlynn Robison, Allison Kafka, Cassidy Kafka, and Ashley Halupka; one aunt, Burnett Bailey, and husband Top; one sister-in-law, Peggy Pannkuk, and husband Bob; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her husband and one sister, Lucille Collette. Services for Ms. Hooks will be held Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Leonard with Brother Denny Gorena officiating. Interment will follow at the Tidwell Cemetery with Bobby Pannkuk, Steve Hooks, Craig Hooks, Ronnie Becknell, Grant Sizemore, Frank Rose, and Jim DeBoer, and David Hooks serving as pallbearers.
