Dwight Howard Williams

February 22, 1945 — December 23, 2025

Dallas

Dwight Howard Williams, age 80, passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of December 23, 2025.

Dwight was born on February 22, 1945, in Hamilton, Texas, to David Henry Williams and Eula Gertrude (née Morgan) Williams. He grew up in Central Texas and graduated from Brownwood High School in Brownwood, Texas, in 1963.

At the age of 20, Dwight’s life took an unexpected turn when he was involved in a serious car accident that resulted in the amputation of his left leg. What could have defined him instead became a turning point. With determination and grit, Dwight refused to let disability limit his future. He conquered immense physical and emotional challenges and charted a new path forward marked by resilience, independence, and quiet strength. Following his recovery, he pursued college coursework and continued building a meaningful life on his own terms.

Dwight married Mary Jane Sharpe in 1967, and together they had two children, Damon Heath Williams and Shelly Dawn Williams. The family lived in Dallas, Texas, but the marriage ended in 1971.

In 1973, Dwight was fortunate to meet and marry Jawana Lynn (née Graham), who had a daughter, Cassie Jean McCord. Dwight and Jawana built a life together rooted in love, commitment, and deep partnership. They lived in Mesquite, Texas, for 17 years before moving to their longtime home on Woody Road—a place Dwight cherished deeply and took great pride in creating with Jawana.

Dwight spent decades working in the commercial grocery industry and retired in 2007. He was known for his humor, charm, and affability, as well as his unmistakable stubborn streak. He found joy in woodworking, camping, and traveling, and he took special pride in the home he and Jawana lovingly built together.

Dwight was preceded in death by his parents, D.H. and Eula Williams; his sisters Wanda Dean (and her husband, Charles Young) and Peggy Nell (and her husband, Greg Clippinger); and his brother, Gary Wayne Williams.

He is survived by his wife, Jawana Williams; his children, Damon Williams (Melonie), Shelly Williams, and Cassie McCord; and his beloved granddaughter, Morgan Beth Williams. He is also survived by his four sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom will miss him deeply.

Although Alzheimer’s disease may have taken some of Dwight’s memories, his good nature and charm remained. He was immensely proud of his family and forever grateful to his beloved Jawana, who cared for him with extraordinary kindness, devotion, and love.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Texas: https://www.vnatexas.org/

Dwight Howard Williams will be remembered for his resilience, his character, and the full life he forged through perseverance and love.
