Dalton Dee Gates was born on November 15, 1948, in Dallas, Texas, to Alvis Claudene McAbee and Bobby Lyman Gates. He graduated from Greenville High School, where he excelled in football and earned second place in the state track meet. Following high school, Dalton honorably served in the United States Navy.
On June 2, 1974, he married the love of his life, Naomi Jean Whitlock. Together they built a life filled with love, faith, and family. Dalton had a true passion for craftsmanship—working as a general contractor, painter, and carpenter. He generously shared his skills with friends and family, always willing to lend a hand with home projects or teach others the trades he had mastered.
Dalton was a devoted husband and father, a steadfast presence who could always be counted on. He loved deeply and wholeheartedly, especially his church family at Park Street Baptist Church. He found joy in good food and good company, but above all, his greatest love was for his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
