Clyde Dickerson of Farmersville, Texas, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2024. He was born August 30, 1933, in Eustace, Texas, to Edward and Mary (Gandy) Dickerson. Clyde proudly served in the United States Marine Corps. Shortly after his honorable discharge from the Marines, he became a Dallas Police Officer, serving the city of Dallas for 24 years. Clyde married the love of his life and best friend Bettye Johnston, on May 20, 1966, in Dallas, Texas.
Clyde was a very involved member of his churches, St. Peter’s Episcopal Church of McKinney, Texas, and All Saints Episcopal Church in San Benito, Texas. After retiring from the Dallas Police Department, Clyde and Bettye along with their son and daughter-in-law opened and operated Gringo's Fiesta Mexican Restaurant in Farmersville, TX for several years.
Clyde loved doing many things, such as baking, gardening, reading Louis Lamar books, fishing, camping, and proudly serving as a Scout Master to Boy Scout Troop 857 in Mesquite, Texas. He even became a Phlebotomist at the age of 60!! His love for his after-retirement life will never compare to the love he showed and gave to the eight children he and Bettye raised so proudly.
Clyde is survived by his brother Dick Dickerson and wife Barbara, sister n law Arlene Johnston; sons Dennis Dickerson and wife Sarah; Rick Dickerson; Jack Dickerson and wife Brenda; Mark Dickerson and his wife Sandy, daughters Lisa Smith and husband Bob; Cathy Dickerson, Vickie Shelton, and husband Joel, Kim Hurst and husband Jack. He is also survived by eighteen grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren, and four great-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bettye Dickerson; his brother, Lee Roy, his sister, Faye Young; two brothers-in-law; and two nieces.
Funeral Services will be held at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church of McKinney, TX, at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 26, 2024.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask for donations to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 511 Foote St, McKinney, Texas 75069.
